In recent years, biofloc technology (BFT) has become very important in aquaculture, as it contributes to sustainability in the aquaculture sector through its many economic and environmental advantages. One advantage, for example, is that bioflocs can be used as feed for farmed fish. This book provides evidence for the potential of dried bioflocs as a partial alternative to commercial feed for farmed tilapia. The book discusses the effect of two different bioflocs sources, drying methods, and dried bioflocs ratios on proximate chemical composition of bioflocs, water quality, growth performance, and body composition of red hybrid tilapia. The book also includes a comprehensive review of the present and past status of BFT systems use worldwide over the past three decades. The historical and regional development of the original BFT studies from 1990 to 2020 were explained in this book. Aquatic organisms tested in BFT systems, classified into five categories (crustaceans, fish species, microorganisms & water treatment, poly-culture, and other organisms), were also discussed. The book also highlights the challenges that hinder the widespread use of BFT for sustainable aquaculture practices.
